Other Payment Ethics Question

if you call dibs you shouldn't have any questions except how do i pay. why should a seller pass up a sale because you think you might want it?

Really... What if you think you see damage on the item but the picture is to crappy to tell and you just want another pic or clarification? I guess you'd just trust the seller that it's in good/useable condition and follow "the first who sends the money first gets it" strategy... Then you'll complain on the forum how you got ripped off, they're a crappy seller because they didn't disclose the item condition, blah blah blah...

I'd be pissed if I ended up in a situation like this: http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/89266-superjet0587-hid-defects-on-a-motor

Then don't call dibs unless you are will to pay right then and there.

First person with money gets it.

If a guy is willing to pay with out pictures he is taking a huge risk the payoff is he gets the part over the 20 other guys waiting for the pictures

.........

uh what pisses me off is when its listed, I put dibs so others know I am pming right effin now! for some reason the other person never responds to dibs and when I keep at trying to make contact usually the next day I get the "oh I sold it to someone else" HOW!!!!! I was the first to reply and I was trying to pm. if you had other offers offline why even bother to list it? some shady douchebaggery is afoot.

Hell, I'll even back out of a sale if someone higher on the pecking order wants it. know your roll people!

but then again, I'm not a very good seller.

Yeah in my opinion, the only thing "dibs" means is that you just contacted the seller.

Anytime I see something on here that I want to buy, my PM to the seller consists of " I would like to buy the ____ you are selling. What is your paypal address, the money will be sent within 10 minutes of your response"

If I am selling something and somebody calls "dibs" and doesn't contact me right away with the phrase above, the first person who offers to pay right then and there gets the part. Simple way to do it.....

i could show you many pms where someone has called dibs or even made and offer i have accepted who has then not bought the item

its amazing if you offer something up as a package and then someone posts

"dibs on the ....... if you part it" i have pmd them and said ok.. its yours heres my paypal... they back out pretty soon

but i guess its a free bump for the for sale thread!

As far as the X goes: My Theory is as follows;
An item is for sale...
Joe Member really needs/wants this item...
Joe doesn't really have the money for the item...
Posts "DIBS" , figuring it may give him some time to figure out how to pay for the item.
Joe finds that all of the cubic zirconia from his mothers' jewelry box is already at the local pawn shop and has no other way to purchase the item.
pm's , unseen by those watching the thread, pass to and fro.

BUMP ...Item still for sale!

Bump...price reduced!

Damn~ that seller was totally not interested in trading chickens and goats for that part. Go figure?

"DIBS" seems like a time-buyer. If you're a seller, and want to give the guy a chance, that's up to you.
BTW: I can get some serious chickens! Goats are tough, but if you need 'em..........

buys you 24 hrs depending on who you are or what you say.

Yep I agree.. And thats only because bank transfers go in overnight, and not everyone can get on paypal all the time. If they are collecting then I expect them to have been over and payed by the end of the next coming weekend.

The only exception is if someone says they will buy something, but wants an exact postage amount.

I'm also more leniant if I know the person, or if they email with an actual reason for delaying payment/collection. 99% of people are genuine and don't screw you around.
