CD/DVD Drive Broke

Long story short. Called Tech Support (Computer warranty ends tomorrow (12/24). I first called 3 weeks ago, they said they were sending a new drive. Well, no show, called back, have to start all over. Tech had me try different DVD's and CD's. CD's will play, DVD's will not. He has me delete drivers, reload drivers, remove Drive all together, reinstall Drive. No go. Then has me do a Hard Dish scan, takes about 30 minutes, next he tells me that he is going to run a Recovery Program, and that I am going to have to copy everything of ours off the hardrive.. At this point I am going ballistic. It is 2:00 am at this point, 3 hours on phone with the guy. I told him that I am not doing that and that I either want a new computer or send me a drive like they already said they would. No dice, "Procedures"....... Finally told him I wanted to talk to a superviser, "There is nobody here now, they work different shift". I tell the guy that I called at 11:00 pm because the last time (Durring the day) I was told that it is night time and no supervisers, hence the reason I call when it is daytime in India. Getting my chain pulled.

So, question, is there any reason to reformat hard-drive to have to check a CD Drive??? I cannot see any reason to do so.

Not IMO.. I assume it's an internal drive? Desktop/laptop?
I would assume that removing, reloading the drivers would be sufficient. You never know, reformatting MIGHT solve the problem, but I would think it's more likely that the drive has gone bad. Generally if the drivers don't fix it, then it's a hardware issue either with the machine or the drive.
Thats the trouble with tech support, they aren't allowed to think outside the box. They have a long list to check off before they let go of any parts.

And they are pretty cheap these days. You should pick one up at best buy or where ever and throw it in to see if it works. If it doesn't work take it back and try something else.

called back around 1:00 yest. Got a different person (of course), In 5 minutes he had my info to send a new battery, 10 minutes later he had it set up to send me a new CD/DVD drive. Mid day yesterday both showed up. Swapped out the drive a few minutes ago. everything back up to snuff.

Guess it is all in who you get on the phone.

That's what is called CSR (customer service roulette). The ball doesn't hit the right spot very often.
