Hi,
I am thinking about getting one and was wondering what the difference between set back and regular style pumps, also the 12 and 14 vein. It is goin to be put in a super jet that will have a built 760 in it. Or is one even needed for this application?

I believe you get more top speed with a set back. I have a 12 vein set back in my Superjet with a 760. I changed back to the stock pump with a 13/17 cut back and I hardly notice a difference.

Robertg- You should of notice a difference. Maybe too big of impeller. What impeller are you running in your mag?

I am running a 14/19 with a 85mm nozzle and a WW cone. I noticed the Magnum really hooks up well over choppy water going WOT. I rarely go WOT, I usually put around at about 20 mph. It has a lot to do with my riding ability and style.

I may try the pump in my Blaster but I need a longer drive shaft.

now the real question is, do you want mag pump performance for freestyle...

for flat, I'd say NO



for freeride, I really enjoyed being able to maneuver/hookup even in monster matanzas whitewater.....


but you can definately feel the azz end of the ski glued to the water with a mag setup.......and Im talking pure suction

I have tried this setup (not from Legdrags, actually it was suggested to me by Pat Bogart) and it is impressive. I have ran The TBM cone both with a 12/15 concord and with a specially pitched 12/15 75mm hub Skat swirl.

Of course my altitude plays into this, but I'd have to say the trusty concord is super strong all around, with a slight slip right off idle.

The Skat big hub seems to really shine in the midrange and pulls a little harder up to top speed - with so much loading of the pump that it brought to my attention a lean spot in my carburetion (in the mid-to-upper RPMs) that I was not experiencing with the Concord.

My advice for this setup is... have a lot of HP! And you will love it!!

There is a lot more to a magnum pump than just an increased hub size. The stator section with increased veins is all stainless steel . The veins are slimmer. It is only 140 mm wide when stock is 144mm. I run a magnum pump with a 12-17 pitch and I can cruise right through the white water. Next time I have it out I will weigh it. I can't imagine it would be more than a few pounds heavier than stock. I really couldn't tell any difference in accelleration or speed from my stock pump with stubby cone and 13-19 solas concord, but it definitely hooks up in the chop and white water. That is something I love when riding the beach break.

agree with half of this. I had a concord 13/16 cut back w/ wet wokf cone in stock pump and noticed huge slippage on very bottom. I instulled a 12 vein non set back w/ 16/21 and it hooks and stays hooked 75% better. But it is ALOT heavier then the TBM / concord set up.
The TBM / skat swirl or concord is much better bargin for $$$$$ than the MAG.
Keep in mind I am running 86mm flattop w/ 210 comp. and 48mm full specs.
If you dont have the power to push a mag the only gain you will get is a better hook up in rough water.

i have a magnum in my ski
i have just changed it for this very setup you are talking about
i was hoping people wouldnt talk about it as its on my race ski and it was my little adavantage
i will let you know what the difference is when i gt the ski going again in the next week
