Wamilton's does great work but charges quite a bit for his services. If you had shopped around and installed some parts yourself you would have been WAAAY better off for resale. You are always better off buying the ski you want versus upgrading the stock ski you have.

If a stock SJ is $7K, I can't see how $18K in extras can depreciate down to $2K over the course of 6-12 months. What is your estimate based on?

The value of any item is not related to what it cost you, but what it's worth to others. What you have there is a nice ski, but mostly bolt-on mods that almost everyone on this site would have done for themselves. The motor work is a nice bonus, but that's a very mild modification. The rebuilt crankshaft? On an 09? That's more of a red flag than a value-add. The footholds are a nice bonus, but the overwhelming majority of riders around here glass-in fixed footholds and are perfectly happy with them, so its hard to judge how much value that adds to your ski.

The truth is that $18k is a LOT of money for what you got, and you probably could have spent half that for the same result. All that stuff depreciated by 50% the second you got it wet - that's about the going rate for used parts in great condition. The ski lost $2k before the ink was dry on the check. So yes: $7k depreciated to $5k in the ski, and $6k in mods depreciated to $3 to $4k and you've got yourself a ski that's worth around $9k. I'd be happy to pay that for that ski if I was looking for one.

When I first moved down to the US, I brought my Seadoo race ski. I have receipts for over $24K in parts and machine work, including the original purchase of the ski. I listed it for $8500 to start and slowly lowered the price each week till it hit $5K and then parted it out on the boards and ebay. I had the hull and title listed for sale for another couple months before just cutting it up with a sawzall and taking it to the dump.

It's sad but a reality. The base ski is always worth book value and all the bolt on's ever do is bump it up $500- $1K from there, regardless of actual cost. Labour is always a dead loss. Guys like me do everything ourselves and see no value in it.

After all that work, why would you want to sell anyways? Looks like a pretty sweet ski and fun to ride.

I have always wondered how some of the jetski shops stay in business. I guess I now know the answer to that. It is on bad azz ski that I am certain was done with the best of everything. The thing to do now is ride it and enjoy it for many years to come!

You missed my point. I'm saying that the $18k you spent probably got you about $6k value in mods if you had done most of the work yourself. My point was that since so many people on here do this kind of work themselves, that the VALUE of the mods is a lot less than the COST. That's what you have to take into account when selling a used ski.

But I am 100% in agreement with the other comments in this thread:

1) It's worth about $8k to $9k.
2) Just ride it!! It's a great package and when you drop a bigger XS powerplant in there you'll have a very sick setup.

Beautiful ski. 8k. If you sell all the aftermarket parts and put it back to basically stock, maybe 9k.

Question.....and I really do not want to get into a heated discussion about this. It is more of a general question. If the majority say it is worth about $7500, + or -, that is roughly the same price as a brand new stock Super Jet. I would imagine anyone walking into a store would choose this ski, which basically has everything, over the stock ski all day and everyday. That is where I am confused. Even if the buyer purchases the new ski and purchases all the parts that this one has it will cost him a lot of money to get the parts and install himself.
