Damn, four stroke would kill us in a ski. If it sinks you are done for the day. No getting it running again and keep going. It requires a lot more mechanically to get a 4 stroke re-fired after a sinking. Knock on wood I haven't had an issue with sinking this year, but last year was bad for me. Had some hood latch issues.

Disagree...rode a 2009 Honda CR450F and a 2004 YZ250.... Guess which one was wayyy lighter and wayyy faster out of the hole? You don't see ANY freestyle motocrossers on 4strokes, because they suck farts. lol.

^amen to that....
so everyone said that 450cc 4 stroke quads would never be taken out by 450's... 450's were too underpowered and too heavy... well they are now lighter and more hp than any 250, so i say lets see so 4 stroke thumpers in a ski. hell i kinda want to put a dirtbike or sled engine in a old 440 hull see if it would even work :p
again off topic but im pretty set on letting the 2 stockers go.... i mean who that can afford a new ski would buy one instead of a rn parts ski and a bob hull????

look again... red bull x fighters few of the guys are switching to 4's..... also i said quads... i made sure to stay away from dirt bikes cause i will never give up my cr250 or yz125 for a 4 stroke :p

plus damn if we had some of the newer port designs and stuff the 2 stroke dirtbikes had in our skis with the right pump... id say near uncontrollable :D

I was thinking something along the same lines. If you're optimistic maybe they're just done making SXR's and they'll introduce a new stand up for 2012.

If that were the case, then I don't think Kawi would bother putting a commerorative "37 years Jetski" plaque on the 2011 SXR. It's not like it's a round number. That plaque might a well say "Screw it, we're done"

The fact that they have a marketing plaque on the last year of the SXR is not proof they're done.

Again, this is just an optimist stance.

hello, four strokes suck ass and sound like someone is breaking ass...i watch the top amature riders at a motorcross race last year in this area on two strokes just rip around the track. not to mention it cost double to fix a four stroke than it does a two stroke...and thats for anything...i hate four strokes, give me a two banger and ill show the fn tree huggers where the hell to go!

You make it sound like we have a decision in the matter. You could have all the money in the world to continue building 2-stroke skis for the next 100 yrs but that doesn't mean you will be alowed to sell them outside of small channels.

Keep what you got running and keep an open mind to new technology. There's a few people on here that remember thinking that the 440 was the most badazz ski ever built and look how they stack up now. One day we will look back on 2 strokes and wonder how we were ever so clueless.

More food for thought....the snowmobile industry faces the same fate as us. Yamaha came out with a full line of 4 stroke sleds while Skidoo came out with a 2 stroke fuel injection system that blew everyone away and met APA standards.

Ill have to check my notes but BRP owns the licensing for the use of those injectors for snowmobile and probably watercraft. Ill have to check that. So until someone comes up with realistic competition for Evinrudes injectors, we have to rely on BRP for 2T watercraft. And we have troubles with BRP electronics in snowmobiles, you couldnt pay me to run an ETEC in a watercraft.

Unfortunately this market wont live. And its Kawi and Yamahas fault.
Im going to get a couple 2011s and throw them in the back of the garage. Thats probably all we can do.

Don't the ETEC outboards do okay? I know they are in a saltwater environment but don't see nearly as much water as a ski engine would.

Worked at a marine shop for a year... We rebuilt powerheads for outboards, and jetskis. 70% of the motors that we rebuilt were ETEC's, which is really depressing considering that they are a relatively recent motor design. And they're jetskis have a lot of problems too, including the stupid supercharger ceramic washer problems. Atleast 10 jetski engines were toasted because of those things. They're service department isnt very great either.

I haven't seen that. But for snowmobiles Ill average 1 SkiDoo 800 rebuild a week all winter long. Arctic Cat? Only two in the last 6 years that weren't operator error.

Evinrude and SD are barely related anyways, Evinrude is where the real engineers are.

yeah, ski doo makes a bad ass 4 stroke , and its only 30some pounds heavier than a two stroke, thats what id put in my ski, . . . why havent i.
good qwestion, . . i guess im lazy lol
