so - I'm a bit confused.
are there two different events? one in Pismo and one in Oceano?
If I was gonna "Rock Star" it - where do I fly into?
how cold is the water? (keep in mind that in TX surf, anything 70-75 is chilly, and below 70 is downright freezing  ) and how big is the surf?
I understand your confusion - we refer to this entire area as Pismo Beach as it's the most easily recognized name - and in fact, the
Hydro-Turf Freestyle Surf Slam will be held officially on the beach in Pismo....the
Smashing Pismo Beach Party is held in conjunction with this competition, as well as - for the first time ever, the
CCMA Oceano Dunes Beach Race and Festival - which is actually held on the beach approximately 1.5 miles south of the freestyle competition. This area is
officially known as the
Oceano Dunes State Recreational Vehicle Area.
Basically, the restricted competition area is permitted for the day use area on the beach in Pismo - the camp site and area open for all to freeride in is at the Ocean Dunes....am I making any sense? LOL! Hope so - if not, please let me know.....and I'll try again.
If you're going to fly in, and want to get as local as possible, then book into Santa Maria, CA. We can arrange for someone to shuttle you to the site from the airport, or rental cars are available.
For more cost effective flights, I'd suggest you fly into the greater Los Angeles area (LAX, Orange County, Long Beach, Burbank, etc.) or San Francisco. If you can get to Sacramento (another very cost effective destination) and arrive by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19th, I will have room for up to three people in my vehicle and am happy to pick you up and take you to Pismo with me.
Heck - I'll even offer couch space at my little house if you have to fly in the night before gratis. I'm returning to Sacramento on Sunday evening (probably around 9:00 p.m.) and can either drop you at the airport then, or before 8:30 on Monday.
Hope this info helps,
Lisa
