My dad has a 97 kawi 750 zxi and it will not cold start unless he uses starting fluid. The choke is functioning properly and it is pumping fuel. He just rebuilt the carbs for fear that the diagphrams were dried out, they were not. Once the ski is warm it will start with the slightest brush of the starter button. Does this thing need a primer? Or are we both missing something obvious?

Are you sure the choke is closing up 100%? On a 95 750 we had it appeared the choke was working, but if we didn't physically hold the knob all the way up while pressing the start button, that biotch wouldn't start. If we just flipped it to the 'choke on' position and tried starting it, forget it.

If this doesn't work, I second the vote to switch over to a primer.

I have 2 old kaw 750 boats, with the EXACT same problems.

I put primer kits on them a few years aog, solved the problem.
BUT this year, the primers stopped working, and went back to my trusty old turkey baster ( $1 at wal mart)
suck some fuel in it, squirt some in the flame arrestor, and off they go.

DONT USE STARTER FLUID!

Def no starting fluid or ether

My 750 is addicted to the primer.
A shot of premix saves big time on starters and bendix too!
