Yamaha warranty coverage for cracks?

Hey guys, need some input.

On my 09 superjet, maybe 10 gas tanks through it, I noticed yesterday when pulling it out of the water, the hood has a crack on it running from where the fire extinguisher rubber clasp goes toward the right rear towards the mat. No impact mark, no obvious paint chipping from impact, just looks like a 6 inch crack on top of the hood through the fiberglass. No mods at all, and I haven't taken it even on any big waves (inland lakes), and just straight riding, so it's really bizarre the hood would crack in this spot. Looks like almost the hood was pre-stressed and then just flexed from riding and cracked.

It is still under warranty, so I am going to take it to the dealer, and see if yamaha will warranty it. My question is, has anyone here had any experience with yamaha on warranty claims for cracking in the hull or hood?

Thanks

only thing I heard of them warranty was the poles on 90-91 models... good luck, but maybe you can bitch your way to a solution.

my buddy bought an 08 brand new from yamaha. after about 5 or so rides, flatwater, his entire hull cracked in 2. yamaha or the dealer paid for the hull to be fixed by an outside source. at this time it was reinforced and hasnt broken again

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm taking it to the dealer today, and we shall we happens. A new hood from yamaha is 850 bucks, so their cost should be close to 200 to fix. Not bad to make a customer happy. I got a back up hood just in case now, but hopefully they warrant it, because a cracked hood from break in type flatwater riding is very disappointing. I'll post back here what happens.

If they ask, tell them you have never jumped it off a boat wake or any other type of wave. Apparently that voids the warranty but there is no way for them to know unless you tell them. We had a couple of local guys with (I believe) 08's that got cracked up from what we would consider normal riding and the dealership basically told them to go pound sand because they admitted to jumping them. Don't make the same mistake...

Just an update...

Yamaha was nice enough and ended up warranty the hood, via a repair, which was still nice. They were going to strip my exsisting cracked hood, fix the crack, and repaint. Seeing as repairs are never great, and the hood is layered, I told them I wanted a new hood. They didnt want to pay the price difference, but did agree to apply the warranty value towards the purchase of a new hood. Would of been a wash, but they made my buy all the "important" labels, like the warning stickers.

Oh well, either way, I was able to get a new good. Pleasant experience with Yamaha!
