Yamaha Superjet paint job

Hello,

Unfortunatly, after years of service, the paint of my Yamaha Superjet 2004 started to blatter of. Started with a small spot, but after more and more sun and water it started to come of more and more. The entire left site of the cowling was coming off. Now i am going to apply a new layer of paint on the cowling (hull is fine). I decided to strip the complete cowling down to the fiberglass, because the original paint was just coming off bit by bit, so this definitly is not a good ground layer.

My question: Did any of you painted a superjet before? And by that i mean all the layers from the fiberglass? So not just on top of the (sanded) original paint?
I found the colorcode (Yamaha Black 0033), but should i prime it before painting? And if so, which primer should i use?
And can i use the regular Yamaha Top coat to finish up? (the ones also used for the outboards).

See below for pictures. PS: I am not done sanding the cowling. The black spots you see still need more sanding.

Yes, this is common and happens to almost all of them. The reason is that Yamaha did not remove all the mold release agent or use any primer under the paint. Because of this you have to remove every spec of the old paint and sand and clean the fiberglass.

The best way to seal and prime the bare fiberglass is with an epoxy primer just like on the Corvettes then over that you can either use a single stage paint or a base coat / clear coat system.

I removed all paint from my 2004 hood, brought it to a body shop along with my nose piece and asked them to blast it whenever they ran a car the same color. Cost me $100. came out perfect. I think they were running a black Mitsubishi Eclipse at the time.

Thanks! I am going to remove al the old paint, But i was thinking to leave the paint in the middle (where the storage tube is), and just sand this very well. Its a b*tch to get there with a paintscratcher.

I was thinking: primer > 0033 YB > 0033YB >Top coat. Am i thinking right? So twice the YB paint

Thanks SXIpro, i will call some painters around here, though there are not much bodyshops around here (netherlands)
