I think I got this off a waveblaster. I cant find any info on them so figured I would post it. I am guessing it is to help if your pump is not sealing/not close enough to the shoe.

I've seen a few of those.
its part of an aftermarket seal.
oem seals have that metal surrounded by rubber.
that metal ring just slips in a groove on some seals. if I remember right, there are 2 of them.
I have used those rings to take up extra space or make an oem seal fit tighter I some AM hulls with lousy shoe install.
are you sure it didnt come out of that groove on the seal pictured?
does that seal pictured have the metal ring inside?

Recently received the seal from JM and found the metal ring in a box of old parts. @JetManiac do you sell pump seals with the metal ring?
All pump seals both oem and a/m have metal reinforcement rings inside. I do not know of any new ones that the ring is removable without cutting apart the seal. However, like Buzzard said, I have seen used seals that you can slip the ring out of. I think they are old seals that the rubber has split revealing the ring.
