they didnt change teh filter to give more clearance while changing. That filter was redesigned for use in more vehicles. That filter is used in about 50 yamaha vehicles.

Correct, the new 5GH filter was not specifically designed for the fx140. It simlpy is shorter, to make it easier to install on some of the many machines it is used on.
I dont believe they changed that filer for ease of install. They changed it to save money on production. The less filters they have to make the more money they produce. Suzuki produces just one canister filter. Honda has 2. Yamaha has like 5. All of these i mean are for powersport things not motor vehicles.
