Yamaha part numbering system, is there any reasoning

Is there any way to tell by part numbers if parts for different Yamaha models and years are compatible...

Ex:
The SuperJet and Blaster coil are interchangable, but have different numbers:

62E-85570-00-00 - IGNITION COIL ASY for 1995 Yamaha Wave Blaster
61L-85570-00-00 - IGNITION COIL ASY for 1995 Yamaha Super Jet

The reds are different, and the blues are the same.

So are the reds an ID for boat model and year?
If the blue numbers are the same, does that mean it's the same part?
What about the last four numbers?

When they actually are the same exact part, they will have the same part number. Take a look at 90-95 SJ stator assemblies. They are the same exact part number as the stator assembly for a 1995 Wave Blaster.

I think that in your example, these two parts are actually different in that the Blaster secondary wires are longer than the Super Jets, so while they both work for a SJ, I think only the Blaster one works (reaches) for the Blaster.

There is hardly ever a concernible pattern in parts numbering to an outsider.

I am sure there is an internal structure to it.

I work at a yamaha dealership selling parts. You cannot tell what the part is for by the part number. And like the kid above said If they are the same exact part the part number will be the same. Sometimes when a part comes out they may be different and yamaha will update there parts so they can work for both and then a new part number may come up. Doesnt happen that often and more for old machines. If you need to know what anything is for by part number shoot me a pm and i can look anything you need up.

I like how they have to have that stupid -00 at the end of a LOT of part numbers... I'm sure there is a reason for it, but nobody seems to ever need those 2 00's when it comes down to ordering the actual part.:rolleyes:

I would like to get a copy of the Yamaha factory EPC parts catalog if someone has it?

It has a feature that tells you what part is interchangeable with each model. :thinkerg:

I found this web site that sells all the factory repair manuals, diagnostic dvds, cds and parts catalogs but it's in Russia. :banghead:

The marine watercraft catalog is 50 bucks and the motorcycles, scooters, snowmobiles, boats and watercraft of all Yamaha productions is 100 bucks.

Use the search feature and type in Yamaha at; http://www.autocd.com

I was hoping to find someone that works for a Yamaha dealership that could burn me a copy of the EPC.

Yeah, I found that site trying to find a service manual for my blaster.

Let me know what you find... I will ask the guy at my dealership, he seems cool. But I doubt he has access to that shtuff... probably locked up in some file cabinet the owner has access to.

what exactly are you looking for. I just told you i work at a yami dealer. Ha ha what are you looking for? I have the entire parts fiche cds. You can look up what part numebr goes in what machine. It will give you a list of all machines using that part. We use fichefinder and it has all kinds of stuff built in. Ill see what i can do about copying them or just taking them. We get new ones every few months anyways. Theres a stack of cds hanging out outback.

If you are looking for some sort of manual let me know what it is and maybe i can hook you up with a discount.

See what you can do that can cross reference part numbers with different models of skis.

Ex:
61x stators on 95 Waveblaster and FX1 are the same.

Lookin' for the Yamaha WaterCraft (EPC) "Electronic Parts Catalog" don't think it's part of the parts fiche cds.

That is exactly what i am talking about. That is not what you think it is. You need a program that uses all the electronic parts fiches. Then you need all the electronic fiches as well. That picture you have is of an open electronic fiche in a fichefinder program. That is not just a catalog type thing. All the watercraft are on a few cds then you need the program to be able to view them. Its harder than you think. I think the fichefinder program also links to the internet and makes sure your fiches are registered. They charge us big bucks for the fiches. Ill look into it more at work tomorrow and see what i can do.

Getting back on track, YES the part numbers do mean something. The "61X" for example at the beginning of some numbers notates the FIRST model the parts was used on. Some numbers, like the ones for hardware ( bolts, etc. ) have as usefull code as well. If you know how to read them, they will tell you the diameter, length, head style, thread, and even the color of the bolt, nut or washer.
That pesky 00-00 leaves Yam room to recycle numbers with newer updated parts which replace the original part number. For example: 5GH-13440-00-00 ( fx140 oil filter) can be replaced by 5GH-13440-20-00. The new filter is about 10mm shorter to give more clearance when changing the filter.
Class dismissed.
