Sorry for my ignorance but I have no time to research at this moment.

Can someone explain to me the 2 types of 800GP engines?
I have heard there is one with "valves" and one without.
Which one is better and why?

I am currently in talks (right now) and might get one, I just want the engine and will sell the hull later on.....

......or give it to DjKorn1 :shooter3:....LOL!!

I believe you may be referring to the 1200 engines, those do come in two types, power valve and non-power valve. All Yami 800 engines are power valve engines, now there are two types of power valves ,servo driven and gas powered .All Yamahas come from the factory with servo driven power valves, the gas powered valves are aftermarket and expensive but they do work well and without external cables and servo motors.

Hey Benny...if you decide to just buy an engine and not a complete ski..hit me up. I have one of those motor sitting here :)

However, good luck on the buy! Hopefully you are getting a steal!

Damn! I talked to the wife who does not know anything about it. She told me to call back later which I did already. I don't want to keep calling, I don't want him to know I am eager to get my hands on his ski.....I am dying of anticipation right now as I will have to wait till tomorrow.
This is a long term goal I have in mind. I would just buy this ski, put a tarp on it and let it sit there till next year or so. Eventually I want to put it on my RN but I understand I need to get a bunch of other parts to make it a clean swap.

Anyways, yes it is a Steal if it turns out to be in good shape, the engine that is. That is all I care about, screw the Hull and the trailer, I will sell those later.

I will keep you in mind just in case.....

Yea it would be great if you could get the whole unit for a great deal.

Those motors don't exactly go cheap.

Good luck!

So How much should I expect to spend on a 800GP engine?
I want to see if it's even worth it for me to get this thing just for the engine.

and what compression should I expect to see on the stock engine? 150?

Thanks guys!

I don't know compression but I've seen a few GP800 ski's for under $2000 and a couple others for under $1500. Most at that price have faded paint or a torn seat but those things don't concern me at all. I was willing to drive 10 hours round trip but I could never get a confirmed condition out of the sellers and I'm not driving that far for a chance.

compression is about 130 stock.
beware of using an engine with significant # of hours as the couches are hard to push so the engines suffer somewhat,or plan on a top end inspection/rebuild if necessary.
the bottom end is pretty much bulletproof if no water got to it.
