Just wondering how many hours or seasons you guys running xscream or similar are getting out of these engines or top ends before a rebuild. Considering the outlay I want something that is going to last more then a season or 2. Love to hear your opinions as well .

Thanks

There are a lot of factors here.
How long is your season?
How well do you treat the motor before, during, and after operation?
What motor? (X-Scream makes more than one and a pump gas stock stroke is going to have a different life expectancy than a 16mm race gas stroker ported to the max)
How do you ride?

^. This.

Also jet maniac has some incredible reviews on his big bore motors and his prices are super aggressive. If you don't need huge power like the high dollar scream motors make maybe a complete maniac motor would better fit the budget!?

Just after people's experiences and opinions really , not anything to detailed can be any size engine top end or full setup.

Thanks Gil, exactly the type of answer I'm after. Overall your pretty happy with that setup?

What bearings are you running in the top end? Conventional/Caged, or Sea Doo cageless? If you're not running cageless...don't go more than 50 hours on that[Billet] top end.

So you guys are saying that with a billet top end I need to buy cageless bearings to get 30 or so tanks of fuel otherwise I'm looking at less time before rebuild

Ok did a bit of a search looks like more then a few people have had troubles with the caged bearing in these setups... But around 100 hrs is stardard for a top end rebuild for these high performance engines with cageless bearings. Of course depending on all the factors above that have been mentioned. So between 1 or 2 seasons depending on how you ride.

in my experience , im on my second complete x scream 771 bb motor they have these things dialled to perfection when i was building both skis i emailed them with every question and got instant answers on absolute everything from water line routing , water screw settings, mixtures, carb mods, jetting, props ,pump setups, plus more done everything as reccomended i bought the motors all apart for freight shipping reasons and assembly was perfect everything numbered, matched, decked, bolted up perfect and havnt had to touch a thing,i tweaked the idle screw and thats it and the ski hauls !!! sounds like no other and is very minimal maintanence imo very professional company that know there :):):):) and after sales support(tech) is great the first motor that a friend of myn has would have 200+ hours on it and like the day i bolted it up, and my one with 30 hours is same

The 771 is a yami based engine with xscream mods , I was more thinking of the billet type. If I was to go yami based I'd prob go with jetmaniac for the price you can't beat it. Thanks for your experience with xscream though. Good to know they back there products.

no worries the 771 is more than enough for the surf imo but i also have ridden plentyof xs billet motors and yes they are also on same page and from memory they use the roller bearings and have done for some time !!, ps, i swapped out a jm motor for the scream !!!!!!!!!!!!!!:Banane09:

Yeah cool was there much of a difference between jm and xscream. So your saying that the billet you tested were getting 200 plus hours.

771 is perfect for surf when properly setup. Im running stock pump and stock electronics and have been told it hits harder than some billet big bore motors

Don't forgot about the Power House Performance billet top ends.
I believe he runs a smaller diameter wrist pin to address the bearing failures.
They also offer a Nikasil coated cylinder option. Competive priceing and makes some serious power for a 4mm engine.

If you want to know how long an Xscream motor lasts before it requires a rebuild, call them, they are the ones who really know, anything else is just an opinion.

We run two 865s over here in the UK. PFP, total loss etc

Mine has 800 litres through it, i changed the small ends for cageless at 600 litres, though to be honest the ones supplied were mint. Theres still visible cross hatching in the bores and pistons are fine.

My brothers motor (very similar spec) has more like 1400 litres through it, weve changed the small ends twice, once for new stockers and once for cageless, weve also changed the reeds as a precaution

We run good quality oil and 99 octane fuel. Warming motor up properly, and fogging after every use.

What can i say ? Performance, build quality and durability, I certainly recommend.

They are good guys down there and are great with communication. Just send them an email. One of my riding buddies just rebuilt his SS865 after 3 seasons and everything still looked perfect! But 3 seasons for us in the north is like 1 season in the south.
