xmw pole with stock steering?

so i am just getting around to installing the pole and i'm probably doing something wrong but i have the pole bolted on, rand the cable went to bolt up the bars and noticed that the steering cable wont even reach the knob on the stock turn plate. I know i should probably just buy the xmetal steering(i plan on it now later i am just broke), but am i just doing something wrong or does it not match up?

Are you sure you got the cable all the way up there? Sometimes there's powdercoat inside the hole that the cable runs through, and it won't go up far enough. The metal part on the cable that the clip holds down needs to be at that hole.
But I suppose it's possible.

yea your right i took it out and the thing wont push through. what should i do just file it down? seems like it should work since i bought it used from slymo, maybe my steering cable is thicker?
