Most people use a BMX brake lever. I recommend a Dia Tech Tech 99

As for the cable... I would suggest a BMX brake cable. But you may want something with a bigger cable diameter. I would also epoxy into your hull a through hull tube like SE puts into their drop nozzle kitys for the cable to pass through. Then you will need a spring of some sorts to keep the nozzle in place before pulling the lever. You can flip the trim over if you want up or down. The stock X2 cable is a push/pull type just like the SX steering cable. So you have some fabricating to do. Good luck.

I used a stock Yamaha steering cable fitting (about 12 bux) to mount my trim cable. I'm using an X2 trim/nozzle and I flipped it over for my application, which means I have to push it instead of pull it. I used a 90o zxi reverse cable beacuse it had the perfect length between the fitting and the pivot ball on the trim ring. I used a bmx lever/cable and connected it to the telflex cable. You can get stainless cable from a good bike shop and I used a cable made for a tandem bike, they are larger diameter to account for the additional length ao they don't stretch as badly.

Trim system

Then you will need a spring of some sorts to keep the nozzle in place before pulling the lever.Thats what that dude said.So ok im confused just like jawbreaker.Do i need like a spring on the cable or can i just run the cable to the pivolt ball and hook it up.

Either way works. I have seen people put a washer on the cable and then the spring followed by another washer. Makes the cable stay put. Or you could do like you said and use a spring hooked to the pump and then the cable ball.

So FX, you have a Kawie 650 0r 750 pump in you FX1? That is sweet!

Jawbreaker, The stock X2 trim cable works just like a stock steering cable. They push in one direction and pull in the other.

So for example, it pushes that cable ball up to trim the nozzle down and pulls the cable ball down to trim the nozzle up.

The trim set up Kawaboy is making will use a pull system where the cable pulls on the cable ball. So he may need to swap the trim ring over to make the pull, throw the nozzle the right way he wants it, I am guess up since he is a freestyler.

Kawaboy, go to a bike shop. You can get this brake bolt/nut setup. It has a bolt through the bolt for the brake cable. Then you tighten the nut down to hold the cable in place. I would go with a larger cable diameter like FX said to reduce stretching.

I think on a 650sx "up trim" should work via pull, so you won't have get fancy on linkages. I need to flip the trim ring over for my application (yes, it's a 650 pump in an FX-1) and with that I need to push for "up trim" instead of pull. My linkage arrangement allows for that.

Kawaboy...your's should be easier to setup (since it's a pull). You could run a bike type cable all the way back and not deal with a telflex cable if you wanted to. You'll have to figure out your own setup, I just posted mine to give you some ideas.

What rating spring are you guys using to have it return to the down position?

Im setting up a hand lever system on my X2 and dont know what spring i need.

I have a light spring on mine, but I think under pressure it will return on it's own.

Legdrag Pete had his trim setup without a spring at Daytona and he said it worked fine when running.

Here is a pic I found of someone who put the X2 nozzle on a 650sx. I would say you will have to cut the rear section up but prolly not as much as this guy did.

I have never put an X2 trim on an SX before. I just am familiar with X2 trim systems since i have three X2's.

You are going to have to find what works best for you and fab up your own setup.

Good Luck.

I have one coming to me in the mail so I will let you know exactly how I set it up. But currently I have the idea of forgetting about using the ball socket setup.

Then attaching the part that the throttle cable pulls on the carb.

Then just a medium size spring to make it return to its normal position.
