So my X2 has never run reliably and on my last trip to the coast it died fairly quickly:rolleyes:. The next day we tested for spark, and compression both were decent to good. We also dumped fuel directly into the carb so it had spark and fuel but still did not run. Today I tore into it and took apart the E-box everything looked good, I took off the flywheel and stator, again everything was good. I put everything back together and it runs:brap:, but I didn’t do anything or fix anything . . . What could be wrong??? Suggestions???

Jeremy, did you notice if the flywheel had spun? Or was the key in the right place. I would put a timing light on it if you can get it running, or do the static timing test, sounds to me like timing but check all the connections and test the stator. Use dilectric grease on all the connectors, and if you pull the carbs make sure the reeds are ok. Also your battery must be fully charged, as they can crank the motor and still not fire the coil properly.

try cleaning the carb real good, may have some trash floating around in ther. had a 440 here this week doing the exact same thing. took the carb apart and it was full of thrash and the jets were stopped up. runs like a champ now.that was also the first time that ski had ever been worked on.

Pull out the filters and clean them.

Flywheel was fine, had not spun. Key was in place. Stator connections were clean. Anyone have some testing specs on the stator?

I did get some water but the plugs were good and prouced good spark. I do have the 2 yellows on the CDI.

I took the ski out today and it ran 'good'. I need to do some tuning I believe but first I need to move the primer kit. When I bought the engine the previous owner had installed the primers into the intake manifolds so it was always sucking in too much fuel making it run rich, especially off the bottom.

I still need to chase down the core issue though. . . I'm kinda bummed that I didn't find some sort of obvious problem. . .

Oh well more 'riding' and 'detective' work to do. . .

The biggest problem I've had with the 750 motors is the stators. They will produce spark but at the wrong time. Take note next time you start the ski. Does it start when you let off off the start button. I have three stators on the bench right now that will only actually start when you let off off the start button. They all produce pretty blue spark but if you just crank and crank they will not start until you let off of the start button. You can get them to start consistanly if you crank it just a few times over and let off and repeat until it starts. This may not be your issue but I thought it was worth mentioning. It had me baffled for a while. Good compression, good fuel, blue spark but would not start.

That usually happens when the battery voltage is not fully charged or weak, amp them up to a full charge at 13.2 then watch the voltage during the cranking.
