300/440/550 x2 Hood mods

I uploaded some pics of the mods I made to my x2 hood to help keep water out.

Removed the top hood scoop and covered it, Removed the styrofoam and hogged a hole through it and the rear of the hood for a breather tube. breather tube runs up and on top of the gas tank. So far it has worked great for keeping it dry. relocated the hood latches to pull the hood down tighter and added some hood straps also.
Now if only I can start riding it again! :banghead: It's been benched for several months now, but should be on the water again soon.

Hmm, how far did you make the breather hose go into the hull? I will admit I have not flipped mine over yet.

The top 2 tie into the upper airway, the big one ties into the lower one.

Not having the foam in there that day may have added to the problem as it filled with water.

I tried to make the hose long enough to run up into the nose, but it could stand to be a little longer. Ideally, the breather hose in the hull should be up above the waterline when flipped over.
mine hardly stayed up when I sunk it once with the hood foam in, I bet it really went under fast w/o any foam. :bigeyes:

I damm nearly lost mine, in the sound. After I flipped it over, the pump ran for a couple of minutes at least. Spent the next 1/2 hour on the beach.

I have found your best bet on an X2 is to run a lanyard or to have your idle down really low.

Just yesterday on my X2 I was riding on the hood. Well usually I just stand up on the nose and let off the gas and burry the ski under the water like a sub, then fall off the ski. ( I don't have the skillz to get back around on the ski once I am on the hood) So anyways the ski then gets some water in it like X2's always do. Then it cocks over to one side and preceed's to go straight towards some rocks near the shore. I tried to swim it down but I knew there was no hope. So it barely just missed the shore and then started doing a big circle. So I had ot swim it down and get back on. Then I noticed it was full of water because you guys know that don't handel for crap until that water gets out of the hull. Did I mention I only have the stock sphion bilge in it? Dooh!

mine fill and floated nose down with about 2 inches of the rear bobing out of the water. it filled due to a fist size whole in the hull and I had no foam in the hood. it might of helped but didn't sink.

I have a teather for mine and it works great no more swiming after the thing when I wreck. the old method was the left hand death grip! never let go of the left hand. didn't always work!

That is what I have been doing lately. That made me laugh. It is the truth though. Hang on for dear life with you left hand. You get extra bonus points if you do it with your thumb hovering over the stop button!

I only do it if I am under say 25 mph. Over that I bail. I don't really try to run WOT but lately I have been getting ballzie.okey:

That's why you run the tubes to the stock water traps, and refoam the hood afterwards....

im thinking about doing the same sort off thing with the hood on my spare x2 soon but just a weee bit diffrent and maybee another tirck i have in mind dont know if it will work tho .
Crab in your pic are you still running your squral cage with your new accursteer i havent got round to doig mine yet and was going tory and do it without out all that up in there

I pulled the stock styrofoam out and hogged a hole through it and shoved the breather hose through. Also blocked off the inside hood air hole on the pipe side and put some turf on the carb side to deflect water away from the carb.
