I am throwing an x2 together from leftover parts I have laying around. My question is, I have a driveshaft that has some light rust on it. Should I just toss it / get a new one, or can it be lightly sanded and reused? Also how freely should the driveshaft/coupler(?) thru hull bearing feel? This one is a little tight and I am guessing that it will also need replacement.

I have a 93 650sx and owned and rode it for 3 years til one day I went out a couple hundred yards from the dock and it seemed to not be running good - I figure ok a hoseclamp let go. won't rev up, go to turn and it stalls then blooop! sank instantly. the bearing came unglued from the rubber hull mount and of course with a huge hole there it sank immediately- all is restored but you just never know when that is gonna happen, if its questionable at least take it out and clean /inspect it. It will be a short ride followed by a lot of work if it gives it up.

I really think I will just replace the bearing, the ski has sat for a long time.
