Is the Kawi 650 coupler regular thread?

What are you using to remove it? I would always break off the fingers when putting a bar in them to get the coupler off. Or a chain wrench around the outside of the coupler will work but mars up the coupler. I just finally broke down and bought a removal tool.

This will be my first coupler removal. But I plan on using alot of heat (torch) and ice on the shaft if needed. Then a long bar should do the trick. But if you have any advice, Im all ears....

Sounds good to me. You removing it from the engine or drive shaft?

If it is the engine, put some rope inside teh cylinder so one of the pistons bottoms out. That way you can hold it in place.

If it is the drive shaft well... a vise may or may not work. I bopught a drive shaft holder as well. Makes life so simple. Plus I didn't want to marr up my new purdy billet couplers when I put them on the ski.

I would not suggest a torch and ice - they will just fight with one another. I suggest getting the right coupler tool and using it. Get the crankshaft in a good big vice and use the right tool with a pipe on the end if needed.
They can be made - 3/8 plate steel.
