Would you pour foam at 61F and humid?

Our weather has been perfect for working on the ski, and I was planning on pouring foam today but woke up to 60F and wet. The forecast is for 73F as a hi, but we're going to a wedding this afternoon so waiting for warmer weather today won't work, and we're going to Nashville tomorrow for the nats, then Monday I was hoping to turf.

Would you pour foam now, or wait until tonight?

I don't have specs on the foam I'm using, but going by US Composites' info, their ideal temp is 75-80 and we won't hit close to that today. I will probably just warm up the cans a little then pour it. Heck, it says you won't get full expansion in colder temps, so it will be more dense and that may be a good thing.

I poured mine this winter, and I only got the garage up to around 60. Worked fine. Humidity isn't as much of a problem in the winter though. Gotta love the KY weather. 30 degree change in just a few days.

put the cans in warm water. As long as the 2 part foam is warm you should get full expansion. If using the lamp to warm the air around the ski you will be set.

I would pour the foam. Remember the foam is basically a chemical reaction part a, part b. The warm temperature will just allow the foam to cure a little faster. I have poured foam many times in cold weather and it has always worked out, just takes a little longer to cure.

Also remember that cold keeps it from expanding as much so 2lb foam may become 4lb . so if you know you are going to pour in the cold you might want to use a lighter foam.

Well, I did pour, and it didn't expand as much as it should have, but I honestly think it was the foam, not the temp. I did a test batch after I first got it, in 90F weather, and it didn't expand very quickly then or as much as expected. I used 2 full quarts and only got the inside about 2/3 full. I'm going to finish it off with Great Stuff, then seal up the front and call it good.

Just a tip....When you're right at the top, start doing smaller pours. If the foam is expanding at it's intended speed, you'll find that although the foam pours out your fill hole, the foam below doesn't have anywhere to go, and therefore doesn't expand properly.

It's hard to avoid this, because at one time or another, you are going to have some sort of pocket that you just can't get to, just try to avoid it on your final fill. Remember, this foam expands upwards from whatever it has been poured on.

Me & Phill microwaved the two parts before mixing.W
Worked great.
HINT: Don't let your spouse know, or get a shop microwave. Great for resin, too.
