WOT Problems

While I was riding today a problem came up with my SJ. If I go to WOT to take off across the lake it will take off and run hard like normal, then shut off like it is out of gas. Afterwards the ski will not start unless I prime it. Then is runs like normal until I try to run at WOT again. It is like the ski uses the fuel in the lines and than that is it. Any ideas?

are you sure your main jet/hs adjustment screws are set right. when mine did that it was because it was leaning out on the top end and ruining my cylinder. i never had a problem because i never run wide open but the 90lb girl that rode it just pinned the throttle and kept it there. it died 3 times on her and that was enough to start melting my pistons.

I have not checked compression on the ski after this happened. I will do it today though. The ski has a B-pipe and Tau Ceti Filters. I have had the ski since the end of April and I checked the tune after I bought it. I added a 1/4 to each of the high speed screws for my piece of mind. I rarely go to WOT for more then just a split second, but on Friday I did make a few WOT runs.

If it was a tuning problem would I have to use the primer to get it to start? Other than that it is not hard starting at all.

If you running dual carbs, filling your manifold crossover will greatly improve the signal to the fuel pump on WOT runs. If you're running the stock 38s they only have one fuel pump and they won't deliver enough fuel for ported big bore engines at full speed. You may want to pull your fuel pump apart and check the diaphragms for defects.

This was happening to my ski also I replaced the spark plugs. Also the breather tube was pinched and was not letting air get to the tank. I un pinched it and it runs great again.

The pulse line in kinked. The line is reinforced tygon tubing, obviously used to keep this from happening. How did the stock line run? Did Yamaha use gas line for this?
