wiring for bilge? how to test switch?

took one of my old bilge kits put it in the new sj. wired white switch wire to brown bilge. black switch wire to battery + and black bilge wire to baterry -.

does not work.

tested bilge before installing worked fine.

how do i test the switch and did i wire wrong. electrical is not my thing.

just bypass the switch by connecting the 2 wires, that are on it, together.

it sounds like its wired right. you may wanna throw a fuse in there too.

i did put a fuse on it as well. what do you mean connect the 2 wires together. how does that check the switch.

how do you check a switch by itself, if possible.

With an ohm meter. check the resistance/continuity between switch terminals. Should be open/infinite when the switch is open, and zero (or close to zero) when the switch is closed.

don't have that option all i have is a test light.

if you use a needle nose pliars, and touch both terminals on the switch ( connect them together electrically) and the bilge works then the switch is bad.

it has to be able to OPEN and CLOSE the circuit.

you can test it using that logic.

Remember to open your mouth so that the blast from the explosion doesn't rupture your ear drums.

12 volts will just BARELY conduct thru wet skin, with pliars ive never felt it all.

something about the path of least resistance.

Unless you are naked, wet, and touching the negative terminal with your mouth....

Im not sure how you work on your ski, but I dont ALWAYS do it naked.

well that makes sense , but i am using the sealed switch. the black one with the long lead.
so how do i test this one

Same. Bypass it and see if that works. If it does, cycle the switch to the other position. If it still doesn't work, the switch is out.
If it's a new switch, I would find that very unlikely.

you lost me, how do i by pass the switch. this switch is only on or off push button. it is not the middle off and left on or right on. you know the sealed military switch.

take the swith out, put one end to the battery red, put the other end to your test light lead, put the other test light lead to the battery black.

cycle the switch.

what happens?

it will either close the circuit or it wont.

That sound painfull, I've pulled the wires of a a running ski a few times, I've only ever done it once while standing in the water, once. :bigeyes:
