Will an exhaust manifold make a difference

First post so go easy on me if I messed up. I have a 90 SJ with the 6m6 and Pro-tec type F pipe. It is hooked up to the stock manifold though. Will a Pro-tec manifold make a difference (a new one is listed on ebay for realatively cheap, $75) or is it just a waste of money.

im pretty sure that the protec pipe that uses the stock manifold only works with the stock manifold. in other words, i dont think protec made a manifold that used the stockers exact bolt pattern. the one on ebay looks kinda like it, but it says its for the "newest pipe". also, that manifold is for a 61x. you have a 6m6. with the mismatching of the ports, you might be better off with your stocker.

...that is, unless you plan on stepping up to a 701

Thanks, I do have 61x motor that I plan to drop in as soon as the 6m6 blows (or I think that 6m6 power blows), but I assumed that the exhaust ports were the same as the Pro-tec website gives the same exhaust manifold part number for both 650 and 701 motors.

i have ran 6m6 pipes on 61x, and vice versa, its not a problem that 5 minutes with a dremal or hand file cant fix, aluminum is soft.

the only problem with dremeling the aluminum is how little coerage the gasket seals between the exhaust and the surrounding cooling jacket.

6m6 is a smaller hole than 61x.

I have not had any issues with coffman, protec, or factory manifolds being thin.

yes they get thinner than they are when stock, but they have always woked fine for me.

6m6 holes are smaller and squarer, 61x holes are larger, and slightly differnt shape, I posted pics of grinding my 650 coffman manifold to fit a 61x a few years ago.

Thanks for the input. I am no stranger to the Dremel tool port jobs, but if there are a couple HP (especially on the low end) to be had with the manifold and it would bolt up to my pipe/61x cylinders, I will get it. I was hoping that I could put it on the 6m6 for the time being though. Do the water jackets line up between the 6m6 and 61x with no issues?
