the law here is if your machine will circle you dont need one but if it wont or if is a run about you are required to wear one,,thats how i understand it

id recomend a lanyard, the last thing you need is a torpedo headding towards someones $300,000 boat. i fell off sharkcus's darth vader once and i forgot to attach the lanyard to my fist and it jut went straight, no circleing. luckly some lady and her son were able to chase it down and yank the cord.
