wierd engine problem

the pv800 was ripping last week until the end of the day and it seemed to have water ingestion. It took a very long time to clear out but once it did it seemed fine until I had a start/stop button issue that ended the day.

yesterday I took it out again and it ran great for about a half mile until I jumped then it ran like water ingestion again. It wasn't water ingestion. When I restarte the ski It'll rev pretty good for 2-3 seconds then start chugging again. I expected to see an exhaust leak but there was none. the only other symptom is that the pisser for the exhaust cooling (no engine cooling in this circuit) is spitting alot of exhaust with a little bit of water.

I'm thinking clogged exhaust after the pipe. Do water box's fail? I haven't heard of that happening before.

Spitting out the pisser usually means a blown head gasket, being that the 800 uses a metal gasket thats where I would be looking,so in answer to your question it actually could be water ingestion from a leaky head gasket.

I know that is a sign of a blown head gasket but I don't see how it could be in this case.

the pisser that is spitting doesn't connect to the motor at all. that circuit goes from the pump to the bottom of the b-pipe head pipe out the top of the head pipe to a T to the stinger and pisser.

cracked headpipe, or partial clog in there.

The waterbox on a sj will fail. The baffle will break in one corner that contains a through pipe. After it breaks off some times it will get wedged in a position that doesn't create enough back-pressure and will make the engine run less than ideal. I haven't seen one yet get clogged and cause too much back-pressure.

Check the head pipe where it was relieved to clear the powervalves. It may be cracked there.

Just a thought, but is there something causing cavitation that could be pumping air/water mix in from the pump?

You said it revs good for 2-3 seconds and then takes a crap. Is this in the water, out of the water, or both? How is the compression?
