Really though, doesn't wal-mart have some padding stuff that people use under their turf? For now you could use something like that until you get a more permanent option

Turf padding or EVA floor padding is the stuff to use. I would buy or build it up at least 1 inch thick and glue it to the existing bumper . I have had to repair two cracked poles where riders slammed them down against the stock bumper.

Get the old 550 style hood shock pads that Hydro Turf sells. They are like long strips of pad and are sold in pairs. Space them just far enough apart that the strap fits between them.

Yes. Too far forward is too much leverage on the pole.

I put one on my SN because there are some cap nuts coming from a bracket under the hood that wore 4 nicely spaced holes in the pole over the years. No more damage and I don't have to look at those nuts either. I took some fingernail polish and put it on the nuts to mark my holes and then drilled out the pad. Popped the shock pad on and stuck like a champ. Best $15 mod I could do at the time.
