I could a product made by bondo its got the fine kitty hair in it and says it can be used on aything from aluminum, fiberglass, smc, etc. What is the SJ hull made out of again, 93 SN if it makes a difference oh and a 90 SN too. It in the pinkish can. Should I have a problem with it. I dont realy like marine tex for all the work im doing.

bondo is usually for visual, not structural. also the bondo stuff i bought when i was new to glassing was polyester resin based which sucks for bonding.

Like Romack said, I believe all Bondo product are Polyester based. Epoxy based products have superb bonding ability as compared to polyester products which tend to delaminate on our skis over time.

My first footholds I done back in 01 bonded them in with fusor and then smoothed everythign out with that walmart bondo glass stuff with the kittyhair in it. I just redone my footholds late last summer and installed new ones. The bondo stuff is still holding strong. I figured it would just be in pieces laying under the pad but it was on there strong. I couldn't even chip it off with a chissel and hammer. I had to grind through the bondo. I preped the ski with 24 grit and a grinder.

I know now that nothing under the pad needs to be that smooth. The turf covers up everythign.

" It in the pinkish can. "

May be useful to find out exactly what the product is.

like romack said all bondo is no good for structural at all. good for smoothing out footholds post glasswork and visual effects like a topcoat or on body damage on a car but to make your nose round and fill the hood holes stick with fiberglass and epoxy resin for strength

I guess I wasnt clear, I want to use it on my stock nose piece, I alreay glassed the back, and filled in the cracks and filler latch, but only mostly, I wanted to use it for the fine details, the epoxy resin just doesnt lay smooth even with a filler it still has bubbles and doesnt smooth out with a spreader. http://www.azautobodysupply.com/fievevgasi.html that is what i bought but on the can says can be used with smc, isnt that what the SJ is made off??

The problem is that regular "Bondo" type body filler has talc in it to help make it sand easily, but it absorbs moisture. That stuff is great if it never gets wet. The waterproof type has chopped glass for a filler, ie kittyhair....it is better for skis but is way harder to sand.

You will be fine using bondo it to fill small spots, but the kitty hair is not for final filling I don't think. It has the chopped fiberglass strands in it.
I used regular automotive bondo to fill in the low spots in the fiberglass after modding my squarenose hood.

West Marine "West Systems" 410 fairing filler and 406 adhesive filler. Sh*** works awesome. Use 105 resing and hardener, cant remember the number on the hardener. 410 you could use like bondo for filling low spots and the 406 is sweet for structural. Has anyone else used it, I am sure you have.
