Super Jet Why is there so much space between engine/mid-shaft coupler?

Never noticed this before. Does the mid shaft move back?
I thought it was pressed onto the bulkhead?
It looks like it moved back a good inch or so.:eek:mfg:
I bought this ski used in 2006 and had the bulkhead bearing replaced. But now installed, I have the engine as far back as it will go and theres a hell of a gap. Way too much, you could get a finger thru it.

Any you guys had this problem?
Help me out, I just unwinterized it.

midshaft was pressed in too far into the housing when bearing was replaced. Is the gap bigger than a half inch ?

Midshaft was pressed too far back into the housing when it was assembled or the ski was tail landed on a sandbar and motor pushed the midshaft back into the housing. Either way you need to remove the midshaft assembly and press the midshaft back to the factory spec of 19.5-20.5mm rear end of midshaft to housing.

Why Yamaha did not machine a groove for a circlip to positively position the midshaft and prevent it from moving is beyond me

Do I really need pics if I said I could get my finger in between it? I do have big sausage fingers though.

Yeah, I'm sure the coupler ears would brake off and sling around before the bearing fails. I'll take the engine out this Sunday, pull the bulkhead and check it out. Thanks for the correct distance too, rear to housing right?
