Super Jet Why do superjets command such a high price compared to kawasaki's?

Now can someone bill me in on the big differences between the square nose and round nose superjets? I know the years they were produced and that one has a 650 vs 701cc motor. Where lower hulls the same? carbs? pumps etc? I see what seems to be alot of swapping between these two usually taking from a round nose and putting into a square nose.

I'm not too familiar with either, but since noone is answering your question, I will try. The SN and the RN are mostly similar. They use the same pumps. They have similar bottom decks and the handling is similar. The handle poles are different which can effect handling, but AM poles are avail for both. The RN has many more AM options, such as more poles, lower hoods and etc. Fortunately thanks to Tom21, the SN now has a conversion hood, so a conversion hood is avail for both models. The motors are quite similar in all 701 models, but more importantly all of the motors are interchangeable and work with any pump.

I personally purchased a RN. I could ahve had a SN for much cheaper, but my motivating factor was the age. My RN is a 2004 that was rarely riden, is pretty clean and is all stock. All SN are 1995 or older, are less likely to be in as good of condition, are more likely to have had more owners, and are more likely to have more modifications. Modifications may be something you want since you can get a bigger bang for your buck buying them already on a ski, but I wanted stock because it is reliable. I already have a very modified X2 that pulls hard away from a stock SJ. I bought my SJ to know I had a ski that would rarely need a wrench.

Its the pump more than anyting. How many Kawasaki owners replace the entire pump/inlet with a Yamaha unit?
They probably wouldn't if they were 144mm, I was surprised to see Malone runs a kawi style mag, they like the bulkhead bearing setup a lot better.

This is why SuperJets tend to cost more. After purchasing your stock superjet, you quickly learn that you're riding a glorified 550 so after about two thousand more dollars, it becomes a much more tolerable, though still poor handling, ski. And if you want to do any serious freestyling, you'll need to call Steve at Watercraft Factory for a new hull and a DASA block.

The SuperJet is a Miata and the SX-R is a Corvette.

The Miata is a lightweight "sporty" car - that's the owners keep telling themselves.

Kawasaki invented the Jet Ski... Yamaha Perfected it. I used to work a yamaha-sea doo dealership in the early 90's. There were always like 5 seadoos in for repair for every 1 yamaha that might be in the shop. My first ski was a '90 square nose right off the floor. Loved them ever since. I'm 40 now and still shred.. The square nose are becoming more rare due to the ages pre-95, but now they are stopping stand up production all together.

Checkout my last 3 squarenoses... I own a graphic shop and like to do wild graphics. IMG_20110916_004039.jpgIMG_20110916_003847.jpg198643_10150235198695808_723950807_7626486_4159008_n.jpg
The shark one will be for sale shortly. It's a 91 (i think) 650 pretty much bone stock. Just finishing replacing top end. Is a freshwater boat from michigan, that I bought in south carolina with a bad top end. A guy lent it to his buddy to ride and he put regular gas back in (no oil) Crank and pistons have been changed out. Will be a good solid ski. Has a ride plate, and a bilge pump for extras. www.lightninggraphicsonline.com for more pics of my work.
