there is no way for that to get in the reed cage from inside the motor. that fell in during your reed change or it went down your carb.
I blew apart the bottom end once and ended up with some of the case alum. on the other side of the reeds. Don't know exactly how but it happened. Incase your seriously considering a repair with JB Weld... I think you should know thats a really bad idea.
unfortunately, your problem is still not solved. you don't know why the piston broke.

Can loose tolerances between piston and cylinder wall cause that?
