Who has successfully registered an AM hull in Maryland, MD??

Hey yaw,

Has anyone in Maryland been able to successfully and legitimately register an aftermarket hull? If so did you register it as a home built vessel?

I am in the process of trying to register my new Rickter XFR as a home built vessel and the DNR is making me a little nervous. Apparently the manager of my local DNR, wasn't sure if he could allow me to register it as a home built vessel, and has since sent my request to the director of the MD DNR and their legal department for review. This was about 4 weeks ago. I believe the issue is that one of the requirements to register a vessel as home built in MD is that you must have built the hull yourself. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect from them and prepare a rebuttal if necessary.

Just got off the phone with the manager of the dnr and they are refusing to let me register it without an MSO. And its my understanding that you can't get an MSO unless you buy a completed vessel.

You can build your own boat. I think maybe that’s where you’re getting him confused. Tell him you built 100% yourself. You can build your own boat in all 50 states. Make sure you don’t mention buying the hull

In montana I have to have the ski inspected by fish and game for any HIN numbers then if there are none they assign me a HIN. After that I have plates made and permanently attached to hull where specified and then any warden or peace officer can inspect it and sign off so I can apply for a title and registration.

I know rules are different in every state but maybe this will help.

I think that is what I will end up having to do. But first I have to convince the DIRECTOR of the Maryland DNR that a bare hull manufacturer can not issue a HIN. How sad is that, like this is literally their JOB.
