Which is best hull drain option?

If you were building a hull from scratch, what would you use?

I'm about to build a stunt hull and want a drain that drains fast and doesn't leak when I'm floating in the lake talking.

Is the Blowsion one way valve a ball valve or a regular one way valve with a flapper like the Zoeller or Home Depot valve? It seems like the best option for the money if it is a ball valve.

The versaplug looks good but it sticks out a lot and doesn't look like it would drain very fast.

The Thrust Innovations valve looks cool but sticks out a little bit and is kind of pricey.

Scuppers are known for leaking but are easily replaced without tearing into the hull. All the other options would be harder to replace if they start to leak.

same here, coupled with a scupper to protect it in surf riding it has been bullet proof. 2 years of surf riding and it still doesn't let one drop of water in while i am floating around.

I've only used the Blowsion valve and a couple different Home Depot valves, but the Blowsion valve won by far, for me.

More spring tension is a good thing.

What is the Blowsion design? Where is the spring? Is it a ball valve like the Versaplug or Thrust? It's not a flap valve is it? It's only $29.

BTW, I had a Zoeller one-way in my last hull and it has done fine for a couple of years. It is like the Home Depot valve except heavier duty.

Judging by the number of threads discussing the use of scuppers, it sounds like most people either run one and love it or ran one and hate it. Therefore we're all awaiting the results of this thread...lol.

yep same here... not as fast as a scupper but pretty damn efficient and leaks very little.. (can leave at a dock for hours) and had mine since 2007

i dont even have a bilge pump

Good hood seal and a bilge pump is all you need. I have a 24/7 scupper and wouldn’t install another one I find no need for it.

I've put a Lowe's/Home Depot valve in three ski's now. One has been in since 02' and still works great. Putting another in right now in my wife's SXR. This will make four I have now used and hopefully with no issues. And like it was said before, there cheap enough at only about $9.00.

It depends on why you need it.

For me, I do alot of flatwater tricks. I get a good bit of water in, and need to get it out fast (If I am competing).

If I did not plan on ever competing again, a Blowsion type of 1 way valve would work well.
