Where to have motor work done?

Im about to start the rebuild on my ski as a few of you may know and im trying to talk myself into stepping up to a 3mm overbore with some porting but i dont know how much that will run me. I need a new crank, 1 oem piston, and a new head to be back running but im thinking of going with the wiseco 84mm piston kit which is expensive but affordable. The crank is also in price range but how much with the porting and boring cost me? And what will i need to do for a head? Does this sound like it would be worth the cost? I dont have a 144mm pump in my fx1 just yet but it has a nice prop and soon to have a decent grate so i should be ok for now. One thing i was wondering was should i get 62t cylinders for my 61x? I read the sleeves are thicker so if i bored out to 84mm i would have a "safer" setup. Would it bolt right up and how much do they go for?

61x for freestyle. porting is usually 350-400 for cylinders. you could get both holes bored for about 100. you need new domes for your head or have it machined for the bigger bore. thats about 100 too
call art at jetworks. hes pretty cool and can do it all in house. he might even give you a cool deal for all the work. hes also very highly regarded on here ask around. he will be doing my porting and boreing soon.....

Hmm... Thats alot more then i expected for porting but the rest doesnt sound bad price wise.

Would you guys recommend boring to 84mm and porting or porting and saving for exhaust?

Also does the wiseco kit come with all of the gaskets and seals i would need for a full engine rebuild?

port and save for exhaust. i would personally get exhaust before porting. i think wisco kits might just be pistons and rings.
you can get the gaskets and seals from jetmaniac for cheap. they are great quality. i run em

Thanks, i just emailed paul.

How much do you guys think a new (or good used) oem piston and head would run me? one dome and piston got eaten up from the crank bearing but the cylinders look great so im sure i could fix it for a cheap price if i wanted, just not sure how cheap.

I was about to suggest that myself.

Who makes the most affordable one? the only once ive seen is blowsions which is nice but pricey

The guy in the for sale section sells the cheapest one. Expect to pay $200-$250 for a used girdled head with hardware. Think about it this way... You may not need the girdle head this summer or next. If your goal is to have a stock cylinder at stock bore forever, then it's not worth it. If you're planning on buying nice pistons, get port work done, and going overbore then you're talking about close to $1000+ in engine work on a cylinder. What's an extra $200 to make sure that cylinder lasts instead of cracking and requiring an extra $1000+ to replace it?

The more i look at prices the less i think about boring out right now. Ill probably just get a stock piston and then a girdled head and some porting that way i can get the 144 pump done and exhaust at some point. Thanks for the help guys, ive got what i need for now.

i would still get a pipe before porting or boreing. get a pipe and have your stock head milled for a couple bucks. a pipe is going to make the biggest noticeable difference for you.

I had planned on a pipe this winter till my crank seized in September or so...
If i can find a decent priced used one soon ill get one for sure but right now im worried about rebuilding and probably a 144 pump. Once i get it back running and have a good pump setup i can mod as money comes in.

You really should not be thinking porting if you are not willing to bore a cylinder and you are insisting on used pistons. You would be better off leaving the porting alone and spend the money on a used pipe. It will run a lot better with just a pipe than a ported cylinder with a used piston in an old bore with out a pipe.

if you want it done correctly send everything you got to someone like jetworks or x scream etc and have it built, ported and assembled correctly ,then drop it in and you wont look back

Sometimes going cheap only lead's to another rebuild in a few months & spending more $$$ in the long run with less riding.

I think Chris has some 701/ 61X/61X motors removed from clean ski's for a decent price. PM Chris (Jetmanica) & sell your other stuff. If you want to be cheap it's not going to be any cheaper than that!

If your going with an aftermarket pipe you should still run a girdle head. Look at Shark Fab. girdle heads. I think he sells his new for 200 and you can run ADA domes.

What would be so bad about putting a factory piston and head back into my motor? The cylinders have no scratches at all so they don't need a bore and one piston is fine. If I found another piston and head I could have my ski back together in no time and work on the pump and finding exhaust.

I slapped my motor back together after the crank grenaded. I got two new pistons and just honed the cylinders. If you're only going to get one new piston, at least get new rings for the other one. I remember seeing your head though, you do at least need another stock head at the very least...sounds like you plan to but want to be sure.

I did go cheap on the pistons though and bought WSM's but couldn't tell a bit of difference between them and wiseco's performance wise. Granted I'm not running race fuel or anything either. The real reason I went cheap was because I didn't really have any intention at the time of keeping the engine for much longer. Things have changed since then and I wish I would've gone with a little better pistons but I bought both for like $120 with rings and that was cheaper than a single wiseco kit. I know they aren't the same quality as wiseco but at the same time I know most people don't need the quality of wiseco's.
