the law in michigan reads like this...i've been busted many times

anyone born after dec. 31st 1978 must posses a boaters safety certificate and have it in thier possesion and available upon the request of an enforment officer...the dnr says anything sactioned by the state of michigan, the united states power squadrons, the national safe boating council, the united states coast guard, or the national association of state boating law administators is acceptable....however the sherrifs department says that the only valid option is to have the original "green" certificate issued by the state....i have mine from www.pwcsafetyschool.com and have gotten like 3 tickets for no boaters safety from the sherrif...after printing out what the dnr considers acceptable and presenting it to the court...they have all gotten thrown out...i was talking to a sherrif at the end of the season and he told me that the state will be updating the law in the next few years..and it'll probally be something like dec 31st 1985 or so but untill then DEC.31ST 1978...it sucks but if you were born after that date...make surew you have it with you

I have one of the pwcsafetyschool.com ones... it's counted the few times I've needed it, but somewhere I read it didn't count. It's a good course to take anyway.

Boatus.com has an online boating course.
Unfortunately, it says at the bottom of the page
"The Online Boating Course is approved to meet the basic boater education requirements in certain states. Be sure to check the regulations in your state. This course is not currently accepted in states such as KY, NJ, NY, PA, DE, RI, CT, MD."
It is NASBLA approved, for whatever that is worth! (accepted in NC!)
