Where can I get this? And a question about turf

Attached is a picture of my ski's tray. On either side of the inside of the tray is some rubber blocks that were "harlem engineered" to be foot holds. Does anyone know what they are and where I can get more of this material (at a local store). I'm wanting blocks about 6-8 inches long and about 4x4 WxH (larger is fine). I'm sure it can't be more than a few bucks?

Also... on a different topic. Does the nice diamond hydro turf come in wine/burgandy/deep red? I found http://www.hydroturf.com/ but they don't have the color I want. Also, they have two different diamond style turfs. One seems to be described as better than the other. Does it really matter? What are you guys that use color turf buying?

A turf job is in the near future (so educating myself now) and I was thinking about painting it before I turf it (no real good reason to do this...). I wanted a burgandy pole with burgandy turf and a charcoal hull, but it doesn't seem like I can get the turf, and I want a nice comfy tray, so I'm wondering if I should go with the more "aggressive" turf and just come up with a different color scheme.

I'm probably going to go with the aggressive diamond anyway, because unless someone knows something I've missed out on, I'm not going to be able to get a nice, deep red and end up with charcoal.

it's hard to see the lifters in the pic but I would guess there are lifter wedges from hydro turf. Call hydroturf about the pattern and color too. I'm sure they'd tell you all you need to know about there turf.

No, not wedges. Here's a better pic of what I am talking about. They are about 2/3 of the way back in the tray, at about 30 degree angle, a (high density foam?) block that's about 4" long, 4" tall, and 1.5" wide.

They aren't anything fancy. Shouldn't have to come from hydro turf. I've seen the wedges at their wed site and these are different.

Sorry I can't take a better picture. Don't have the ski. It's at a friends house.

EDIT: ok, so I looked up the lifter wedges and I had them confused with the kick tail. These do look just like the lifter wedges. Thanks.

Do any of you all use the kick tails?

I'll call hydro turf about the diamond style question and go ahead and ask them about burgandy turf (even thought I know the answer).

What does "nice" or "aggressive" mean? They have two types of diamond, "cut" and "molded." Most people go with molded. Unfortunately, HT makes most colors in cut, but only two or three colors (black, gray) in molded.

On the lifters question, if you are going to be returfing, you may just take a little more time and install real footholds. Perhaps hold off a couple of months and do it over the winter.

I dunno, it's just what they said on the site. I was curious of how much better it really is. I see pictures where the skis have colored turf and I think it looks very nice. I wasn't sure if that comment they have (as quoted above) really makes a difference, or if it's .00000001% better than the cut and not worth giving up the color for. I'd go with the "better" stuff if it actually makes a difference, but if it's pretty much the same, I really like the color.

I totally agree. I was only thinking of using them as a quick fix. Today was the 1st day I actually got to take my ski behind a wakeboarding boat. The way the ski is set up right now was okish, but it just wasn't working out quite right. There's no way they would be any use if I took it into the surf (hoping soon). I thought maybe I could just glue another piece of foam (not just, I was going to shape it some, but it'd be cheap and still quick) on there until I can start that project. I am going to wait to turf as you suggested (want to paint and some other work too). BTW, budget plays a big part in the thought process. The foot holds I have seen are $150. A lot of money for a hull that has a 19 year old engine.

Footholds can be gotten for cheaper but then add in the cost of fiberglass materials and then hydroturf. It can get costly but its something that I ended up doing on my own 650sx.

I hadn't even looked at the cost of glass when I looked at the foot holds. I see a set on ebay right now for $75.

I was thinking I could get some of those lifter wedges, shape them nicely, and then turf over them. As long as they don't come loose and damage the turf, it should work. It'd be pretty nice like that. I realize that real foot holds would be very nice, but...

Pretty nice ~~~ shaped lifter wedges just enough to get the job done + turf = $100 (or $40 if I used the "B" stock turf, which is what will probably happen since I'm going to end up with charcoal anyway)

well, budget wins when the price difference is so great. I'm not going to do a whole lot of advanced jumping with my ski. No roll or flips or anything really. Just hit the wave and land.

You have a D-cut ride plate. You do frestyle with your 650? How's that working for you? i don't have the desire to do tricks on the ski, I wakeboard for that, just curious.

I like the feeling of the tail being loose. I notice that I can not carve as good as I can with my brothers 650 which has a Westcoast plate.

Im just getting used to the footholds and so thats new to me. I just mess around at the lake and try to do as much as I can with the ski.

Can someone give me a quick estimate on the price of the materials to install foot holds, with 0 of the needed materials atm. Cut hole, remove foam, seal in foothold, make look pretty, yes? I probably wont find real foot holds for less than $50?
