FX-1 Whats wrong with my FX1????

I have a 94 fx1 (701 61x) and I am having an electrical issue. I ride the ski for awhile (it runs great!) and I shut it off to take a break and I get the "click" when I hit the starter. After awhile it starts back up and runs great. My battery is not the problem, it's new. Can anybody lead me in the right direction. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

have you checked the solenoid? or maybe even bendix?

i would guess more then likely it just a bad connection somewhere, check you start/stop connections and check the grounds and starter wires for any corrosion or loose connection.

My guess is the battery ground cable, corroded on the end that goes to the engine block under the exhaust, that no normal person can get a wrench on

Well I pulled the exhaust and cleaned the connections to the bloack and startor (they were a little corrided but not bad). The startor and battery are working fine. Tonight I will take the start/stop switch apart and give it a good cleaning. Thanks for the help. I will keep you posted on what I find.

Well it wasn't the start/stop switch, so I took the electrical box apart. Everything inside looked great, but ever since then the fx1 has started everytime. I don't know what I did but I fixed it!!!1

Dont be surprised if this one comes back. Electrical problems rarely fix themselves.

You said you get the click, so you may be ruling out the solenoid. Sometimes the contacts inside the solenoid wont pass enough current to get the starter turning. Its happened to me.

instead of trying to get to that hard to reach starter cable, you can run an additional black ground wire from the battery negative to the engine somewhere.

use a black battery cable from walmart for a car, about $4 heavy guage.
and that should help if your issue comes back.

Now that you say that, why do they stick the ground connection in such a difficult spot? I guess this goes for any 701. WTF?

Well it's back!!!!! I rode all summer and did not have a single problem untill now. I got the "click" sound again. Now I get nothing at all. I checked all the connections, battery is good, start/stop switch is clean, electrical box was dry and clean, fuse is good and I still get nothing when I try to start. At least this happened at the end of the riding season and not in the middle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

replace the ground cable. have you had to replace a battery or two?

if it had more fx1 purple and pink on it you won't have these problems!

and boom goes the dynamite......Thanks for the help. Fixed it in time to go for the last ride of the season....BOOOOOO:crying::crying::crying::crying:
