650/X-2 Whats the best way to test the ignition system?

i'm workin on an 88 650 x2. i've owned the ski for over ten years. and the whole time its always had really weak spark but seemed to work in the past. long story short its been sitting several yrs and now tryin to get going again. I'm fairly mechanically inclined. guess i'm looking for some direction on how to test the cdi. has very weak to no spark. and replaced both stator pickups several yrs go w no imporvement. on spark. so thinkin it's either rectifier or cdi. and is it possible to test the cables being they're molded into the cdi? any helps appreciated

The kawasaki 650 x2 manual has the tests for the cdi box. I downloaded it and the 650 sx supplement off the net, I can`t remember where I found them but it should come up with a google search.
