Whats the best size single carb?

I'm going with a single carb set-up on my 701 motor, but my question is, what size should I get? Is 44mm a good all around size? It will be a stock 61x/62t motor with a b-pipe. Also what is the difference between the super bn carbs and the others? Basically, what carb will be best. Thanks guys.

a single 44 is nice for that set up IMO. but once you start upping the potential power the 44 will hold it back. a single 48 works real nice at any level, i think. great bottom for sure though. im jealous of my buddies single 48.

at WOT my single mikuni lacks the fuel delivery. sooo if your not doing WOT...single 44 is great.

I have a single 48 power bomb and it rips. No single carb will be able to deliver enough fuel for extended WOT runs, but 10-20 sec runs are ok if jetted right. Important thing is the right size return fuel line restrictor and external fuel pump helps also.

so should i just go with a dual carb set-up?

I ride 99% of the time in the surf and you don't do WOT runs for extended periods of time so it's perfect for me in my opinion. Easy to tune/change jets, better throttle response, etc. If you ride rivers and lakes I would go with dual 44's.

so Paul...in YOUR opinioin.....is there EVER a good time for a single on a T case?

whether it be a 48 conv., single 46, full spec...whatever???

Yes! Every rider is differant. a single will fit a lot of peoples style.
Here's the problem. Most everybody wants the most power they can possibly get & are willing to sacrifice , ease of maintaince, simplicity, tuning, reliability, water ingestion, & a host of other problems.
Power, The drug we all crave!!
Rick Roy, is one of the most fluid riders in FS history. Why? because he learned how to get the power when he needed it. He was/is a finess rider.
part of his total package is a single carb & special tuning to his requirments. end results, several world pro championships.

As a result of everyone craving the big power, I found how to make it. Now everybody can have it & learn to ride the hard way & never devolop a style. They are spending all their time hanging on to the power & not riding correctly. The big lesson to be learned is how to ride within your means. 90% of todays riders don't need the power I'm asked to make for them. They don't allow themselves a learning curve.
Solution: Port your cyl for the riding you hope to be able to do one day. Then de-tune the motor for the riding you are capable of doing now. part of that will be to use a single carb in the short term. grow with your riding & don't fight it!

While in Daytona, I let a host of riders use my Boat. JK simply said, way too much power for my style, Taylor felt pretty much the same.
Fabian was completely at home with it, & was pulling tricks that made me go WoW!!. Differant Riders have differant requirments. Build your boat for you, & don't get caught in the power drug. But, If your already addicted...........
I have more where that came from :Banane01: :Banane01:

ski ya, Paul

I don't post all that much on these sites because I try to search through all the information that is already here.

There is another quote in the link below where he tells you when you should generally use a single carb or double carb. It mostly depends on what you have done, or WILL do, to your engine.

if you have 62t cases, just run the stock dual 38's. cheap and from what i hear very effective for rec motors.

Hell yeah... nothing wrong with 38's. I'm still running stock 38's jetted correctly to my set up, and it works great. I just put my motor back together with my Jr. Magoo ported cylinder and I plan to stick with the stock 38's this summer... maybe go to twin 44's next year. I mean, I would love to have to $$ to spend on a nice new full spectrum... but I don't.
