how long can the screws be? seems like that could go wrong really quick.

never gonna be a good idea to screw into the bottom of your hull... please don't try that

Sorry slut, I've screwed every bilge I've ever put in. Someone I trust implicitly told me they got the idea from Chris Maros . . .

It doesn't matter how long the screws are. You drill a hole all the way through the hull. Put a screw in it and grind off where the screw sticks out on the bottom.

Now in light of the recent hull breakage we've seen in the same area . . . this may not be the best idea, but if you aren't ripping mondo back flips off surf I honestly don't think it would be an issue.

As I've said in other posts it hurts like a mofo to drill a hole in your hull, but it will never ever come out. Especially if you make some little aluminum brackets (one for each side) to hold it in place. I've eliminated the plastic strainer completley.

No issues and it's closer to the bottom so it gets more water out.

i won't argue w/ you on this, but it's a very poor solution to a simple issue

you have:
fiberglass resin
2 part epoxy
5200 3M
Bostich 1100
Bostich Panel Bond

all of these product work very well and there is no loss of structure to the bottom of your hull.. Actually it is increased. Every hull I have ever run has broken apart in the same area ... That area takes a heavy amount of stress due to the firewall being right aft of that... Not to mention as soon as you drill through and grind the tip of the screw down you will have made a spot for water to start seaping in and deteriorating the SMC... it could cause a lot of un-needed problems...

Hmmmmm . . . I'll have to give that serious consideration. Perhaps there is a better way.

You could glue both the little aluminum brackets down, or make one bracket with 2 tits.

I've just had quite a few of those rule stainers break, and it's in such a tight spot if it happens at the water it's a pain to fix quickly. When I fix something on my ski I want it to be bombproof as possible. If it broke last time, I don't want to fix it the same as before, I want it better.

Or you could just buy a bracket that bolts to where your motor mount bolts to and not worry about drilling or epoxy.

A double bracket is $80 and a tube of 5200 is $7
I had a bracket before and they do work great but pricey .I aslo think they don't sit as low as if you glue it to the bottom ,correct me if I'm wrong :headbang:

Wow - I can't believe we're up to 2 pages on such a simple topic! Head to Wal Mart and grab some 5200 or use epoxy if you have some lying around. A pot of elbow grease and some 36 grit sandpaper and "Bob's your uncle" as we say in England....

LOL!! I knew that would get you guys! "Bob's your uncle" means "and there you have it" (or close to that). The full espression is "Bob's your uncle, and Fanny's your aunt." And no, I have absolutely no idea why....
