What's a pole limiter?

Getting setup for surf riding. Noticed the post Midlake did and I'm very glad he did. 2 recommendations were given to him on this site that were not given to me on the other site.

Pole limiter and hood straps.

Shouldn't the normal hood strap suffice? If not, what do you do? Take a bungie and stretch it the other way so the 2 straps form a +?

What's a pole limiter? What's it's function? Where is it normally installed on the ski? Can I make my own?

one end attached to the dash and the other end goes to the underside of the pole
usualy below the turnplate

I custom made one with no money spent. Pole limiter.

I dont have a clear pic but the trick is to keep the pole from accidently over extending at the same time keep the rope out of your way. It has already saved my ski in the rough surf many times.

You don't need a pole limiter. Just don't bail off or lose your ski.
Easier said than done when learning though!

its alot cheaper than ripping out your crown or breaking a pole/bracket...i straitened out two stainless caribiners in one weekend (pole side)..if i didnt have the rope on my ski something would have broken..ive also broken pole bracket studs with the limiting rope so if i can only imagine what would happen w/o...
