whats a d-cut ride plate do?

what do u get out of a d-cut plate, i have a works plate now -can i modify this on, or is it better to do it to a stock one? are there any critical dimensions or templates to follow? or should one just be purchased from a manuf? wasnt sure if it was more for racing or freestyle

D-cuting your ride plate keeps the nose of your ski up which is wanted in the surf or freestyle. Definately not for racing. its better to do this with a stock ride plate being no need to ruin an aftermarket one you spent $$ on. I dont think there are any set dimensions to follow but I believe most cut a 3" half circle.
