that's about it if you ask me. it would need to be enough fuel to not burn to make a cylinder that clean.
A stuck open needle causes an overly rich condition at low RPM's. If it's bad enough, the motor isn't able to get past it into the higher RPM's.
A worn needle is almost the same, but not as bad.

So true! yeah i think that that would be noticable with the way it runs, but not everyone can pickup on their motor's behavior. I guess that if the needle is leaking it would not effect it at high rpms but make it rich down low like the pop off was not set proper. I think it is safe to rule that out because he said it ran good and the piston wash is kinda sudden observation. would a low richness even change the piston wash? i figured piston wash is from mid-higher rpms

Water steaming in will will wash off the oil and you end up with a scuffed piston. Is the plug wet with fuel??

he did say the oring was undamaged, hopefully he can update us with some info on what he did and how its going.
