what way do the seals go in the midshaft?

Do the seal and bearings go in the housing first or do you put them around the shaft first?

The bearing can go in either direction right?

does the front seal go in this way?

or this way?

do the two back seals go in the this way?

The spring side of the seals faces outward of the bearing and the brass side of the seals all face inward to the bearing.

first you install the bearing, then the seals, then press in the shaft so it sticks out 3/4" in the back. Best I can tell from your pics, none of your combinations are right. #2 pic looks right for the outside seal but (!) facing the rear (the pump). #4 looks right but pointing at the coupler

The bearing presses in the housing first.

I have been looking at the manual for a few days now. the quality of the diagrams is terrible. I can't tell what is going on.

1. install oil seal
2. install shaft
3. install oil seal

and there are some diagrams that I can't make out.
