My first ski was a minty fresh 89 650sx for $800. That was also 6 years ago and for some reason people are asking more and more for their ski's these days.
That color scheme was produced in 1988.
6 years ago, the economy was doing great, so people were buying new, and old stuff could be had cheap. 3 years ago the economy was in the

ter, and people couldn't give stuff away. Now the economy is not like it was but it is still pretty good. They discontinued the SXR and are still making the SJ but now more than they were. People no longer are in dire need of money so they are not giving away used skis, the market isn't great enough for everyone to want a new ski, and the availability of new skis is down, all of these lead to the price of used skis being up.
Nothing has a set price, it's all about what someone is willing to pay. Right now, it is shifting to a sellers market.
I thought it was funny about 2 years ago when I saw a steady and rapid increase in used pricing, all the while all the "experts" said the market was still struggling and we were facing another depression. They obviously were not looking at the used market. Prices went up because people don't need money and are willing to sit on a high price, because they know people have money, and are willing to pay more than a few years ago.
Don't be surprised to see a 650sx that sold for $800 3 years ago selling for $1200 now (assuming condition is the same). The going prices of used SXRs in my area has gone up by $500 in the last 1-2 years (for the same model year and condition).
