i coated it in sillicone and use a rubber boot. has worked great for a year with out any problems. west marine is great if it ever fails bring it back and they will give you another with out thinking about it. but buy the boots from lowes they are much cheaper

Sorry bro tried that one and it didn't hold up for me. They make that same switch in a completely sealed version. It's basically completely covered in rubber then when you had the rubber boot to it becomes completely sealed.

Check it out. Its the waterproof one.

i havn't had a problem in both fresh and solt water. just to make sure it was sealed i encapsulated the whole thing in silicone, maybe that is why.

Yeah I meant to do that to mine, but I was in a hurry and threw it on really quick. Honestly it didn't last but 3 rides in the salt. I would definitely cover it in silicon like you said, but that waterproof switch is really nice. I wish I could find a picture of it. You cant even see the connections on it. The only thing it has is two wires coming out of the sealed switch. As long as you use heat shrink butt connectors on the wires no water should be able to get to the connections.
