What to do with my tray? first post

mikidymac thank you for posting about the Slippery Liquid Race Boots. I just ordered the race boot from Jet Pilot Australia. They are too large so I am sending them back. And I am not that impressed with them for their price. So, I am going to order the Slippery Liquid Race Boots which look very good online.

As far as riding barefoot. I cut the tendon under my big toe on a piece of glass walking barefoot down a mountain stream when I was a teenager. It just means that I cannot pickup a pencil with that foot. But I have been a big fan of shoes even in waters/beaches ever since.
Make sure you get a size larger as they run small. I have the biggest ones they offer and wear a 11.5-12 shoe and they are a perfect fit.

mikidymac: Same for me. I wear a size 13 in boots. But a 12 in water shoes, 11 in snow ski boots, anywhere performance is required.

BUT I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING BUT XS ANYWHERE IN THE SLIPPERY RACE BOOT! DO YOU HAVE A SOURCE?

jetpilot shoes suck and start falling apart after 1-2 uses Not sure on the boots. Having tried everything from wetsuit shoes to wrestling I prefer high top basketball or skate shoes. Grip great when wet and lots of ankle support. And at your age any extra padding you can get for the knees is going to help. :)

My '91 is built to whatever limited class was at the time. It was rode hard one season and I bought it in '92. Here is what I remember from what the guy told me.
Im sure that old SJ is ready for some maintenance. If you're wondering, just adding a 701 cylinder is all it would take to blow away a stock 2020. A little porting on top of that will get you into the high 40s.

The tray extension can definitely help with getting better control in the corners. Might impede freestyle some though, maybe someone else can weigh in on that. For something else similar but less “aggressive” you can try these: https://jettrim.com/shop/watercraft/stand-up-jet-skis/yamaha-superjet/jettrim-ergo-kickers/. BTW if you do anything with your tray, I recommended looking into JetTrim mats. I know they can do custom for wide trays, but don’t know about footholds.

I wouldn’t mess with cutting your tray at this point. The only exception is to maybe reform and seal it if you think it’s waterlogged. But that’s also when you’d want to do any other tray work, so maybe it’s best to just wait through this year regardless. Putting drain plugs in for now is also an option.

Sounds like you’re getting the right idea with your “backside” turns. When you get a better feel for it, you’ll want to be right food forward on right turns and vice versa. Firm foot pressure on the rear corner helps a lot. One side will feel notably harder to master, just keep practicing and trying different combos of throttle, foot placement, and leaning. It’s a beautiful thing once you nail it, and you’ll learn to love those sore legs after.
