what size is the crankshaft key?

I lost my crankshaft key. Well, technically I put it in a safe place so it wouldn't get lost....then forgot the place. Anyone know what size it is? And can I grab one at a local auto parts or hardware store?

I think your best bet would be to order it from a Yamaha dealer. I don't think it's very expensive.

Standard crankshaft keys will not fit without heavy modification,ditto on what

I bought one slightly large at Autozone and filed it down about 2 years ago, it still works fine. Since then I have aquire a couple extras here and there.

my local orchard supply hardware carries the perfect size. i rode with one or a couple months before going back to oem

I have probably 10 OEM keys back home, but I am up at school right now. If you don't have one by this weekend or next weekend, I will probably be able to hook ya up. -Kurt
