650/X-2 what should i look for when buying?

So i just sold my old ski and found a very nicely done up 89 x2. this is what it has... 1989 Kawasaki X-2, west coast exhaust system and waterbox, west coast intake manifold, 44mm carb, k&n flame arrestor, skattrack prop, ocean pro nozzle, r&d scoop intake grate, renthal bars, hairy finger throttle, new paint, hydroturf and seat cover, ski has been shortened 3 inches, just rebuilt motor 0.75mm over, runs great and really fast. asking 1800 dollars.

What do you guys think its worth and what should I look for? Is a x2 lots of fun or does it feel more like a sit down?
Or should I save my money and buy what I really want which is a 750sx thats in great shape. thanks for any answers

They are lots of fun. Like riding a stand up. The hood sucks, so they take on a lot of water.

Just look for condition. If it's beat to , it's going to be a project. Try to find something that needs less work.

Look for rust, less is obviously better. DO A COMPRESSION CHECK. If they say the battery is dead, jump it. If it clicks but doesn't spin, it could be frozen. Look for A/M parts, unfortunately, the more the worse the ski likely is. In my experience, people who sell non-running skis with A/M parts are assholes and the ski is ALWAYS :ugh:.

If you really want a 750sx, save the money for a 750sx. You should be able to find a clean stock 750sx, or maybe one with some parts, for about the price of that X2. X2's are a pain in the arse and always a project. The year of the X2 doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is how good of condition it is in, what parts it has and the condition of those parts. $1800 is the upper end of the price of a X2 and too much to pay for something you do not want.

I just sold a 750sx but I bought it not knowing anything about jetskis. Rode it 2 times and it broke the second time. fixed it and sold it for a few more dollars. Lets just say it was in need of some tlc. So now I have a lil more cash and want to buy something that isnt a roach. This x2 is an 89 which is 5 years olderthan the 750. The major difference is that this x2 looks like it was gone over with a fine tooth comb. I like the idea of the x2 but I like speed and power and I think the 650 may leave a lil to be desired. So its a toss up plus finding a 750 in my neighborhood is impossible.

Asking to much IMO

The chances of finding a "good" 22 year old ski are very poor. Look at them as a box of parts because that is what they become when you start repairs and upgrades. Resist the urge to get it now and look for the best deal. All skis are fun but you will outgrow their capabilities sooner or later. A Superjet has some built in advantages making them easier to upgrade to acceptable level of performance. That X2 will require a lot more work and money in order to get there.

Findind a good jet ski to me is one that doesnt have 3 cracks in the hull and stays running. I want to be able to ride it and not just fix it. Thats what I had and thats the same reason I got rid of it. you can polish a terd but its still a peice of crap right? I like the x2 cause it is so nice. not gonna be able to afford a super jet this year. I have around 2k and want to stick in that range. Im not even sure if im going to stick with jetskiing so if you know of any other type of ski thats fun for that money let me know.

Any X2 is just a polished piece of crap. Look at the hood. Every X2 sinks, yours will be no exception, no matter how nice it is.

Me and a close friend have had a few between us. There fun, but not as a primary ski. If you where closer I woul give you a couple of good hulls and a few boxes of parts.

X2s take in more water when on their side and they tend to spend more time that way than standups do. I would leave the case drain in an X2 because it does make clearing a swamped engine easier.

If you build an X2 right it is the best ski out there. They take time and money but when they are done right you can't beat them.

I have became a 91-up X2 snob now. Better water line, hood seal, and a list of other things. Then 94-95 have the best water box setup.


But any X2 needs a moor swap and a good pipe and prop.
