Probably answered this one a million times but i am just trying to learn as much as possible. got my first superjet and it just took over my life. Best investment ever. I am trying to learn as much as possible about all the mod enine parts. Can u guys explain to me what is a stroker engine and what do different mm notations mean. Also for all the bigger cylnders like 760 and 900 and up do you use the same crank case? thank you.

A stock crank shaft has 68 mm of stroke (piston vertical travel)

A stroker engine utilizes a different crank with more stroke. The different x mm numbers denote how much bigger the stroke is.

Thank you. Whats the benefit from having a longer stroke? More torque from each combustion stroke. I appreciate the help. I have been reading the forums and realised how much i still dont know.

So when u have a stroker engine the crank shaft stays the same but the piston rods are longer? Do u need different pistons to accomodate for the longer stroke and deck height?

LOL Keep reading that is why we are all here to learn

NO. the rods can stay the same it is the spacing from the bottom rod end to the center of the crankshaft that needs to increase.
Do u need different pistons to accomodate for the longer stroke and deck height?
Not pistons but cylinders or the use of spacers to make up the difference.

This is about all that I can answer I don't know a ton about strokers I just bought one already built so I didn't have to worry about it....LOL

Longer rods are sometimes used, but not for stroke increase per say.

Think about it and try to visualize it... a longer rod does not increase piston travel. Though it would increase the static distance of the piston from the crank shaft.

Ok got it. And last question what is the difference between ported cases and bored case. Thanks for all the answers again.

cases generally aren't bored. the only time you bore them is when you put 760 or big bore cylinders on a case made for a 701. porting cases open up the pasages the air/fuel travel

Strokers increase displacements as well as increase the length of the moment arm around the crankshaft. This increases torque. It also increases the MOI of the entire crank assembly by moving the weight of the pistons farther from the center of the crank. This usually decreases the safe rpm limit.

To determine displacement what you need to do is calculate cross sectional area of the cylinder/piston and multiply this by the stroke length.

[Pi X Cylinder diameter^2 X stroke] / 4
